FIDM Costume exhibit 2017 (post 1 of 2)

2017 is the 25th year of this annual "Art of Motion Picture Costume" exhibit.... featuring current year's Academy Award nominees and winner. When you visit the exhibit after the Oscars, you'll already know who won... but there can still be some surprises...

Last year's 2016 Oscar winner greets you at the entrance...

And 2015:http://stuartngbooks.blogspot.com/2015/03/maleficent-birdman-etc-at-fashion.html

This show is a MUST SEE for cosplay fans. You can get close up to the exhibits. So much detail and construction info. And did I mention: FREE ADMISSION!! (Parking is free on Saturdays only)

Each selection of costumes identifies the designer and the actors in the roles...

Here's the first room display for 2017... with costumes from LA LA LAND, MISS PEREGRINE, DR. STRANGE, LIVE BY NIGHT, HUNTSMAN:WINTER'S WAR, NOCTURNAL ANIMALS, HAIL CAESAR, KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS....

FIDM Costume Exhibit 2017 (post 2 of 2)

Here are the costumes from the second room of this exhibit...

ROGUE ONE, LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP, ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, ZOOLANDER 2, FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM, STAR TREK BEYOND, ALLIED, FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS, SILENCE, SUICIDE SQUAD, CAPTAIN FANTASTIC, FENCES, BATMAN v. SUPERMAN, HIDDEN FIGURES
ROUGE ONE (the credits on glass display didn't photograph well)

Costume designer Colleen Atwood won her 4th Oscar and 12th nomination with these designs. This same year, she also has costumes on display for ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN, and HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR.
When you see the costumes in person, you realize there are choices made to express the characters, but also for the needs of lighting and sets in a film. In the movie, this teal coat photographs like a fantastic garment... but in the lighting of the exhibit gallery, and even more so in these photos, it seems sadly drab.

The Exhibit is open through April 22nd.
