Some artist friends exhibiting at this convention....and I had never been... so packed up my pal .....
Huggable Koi #10 (https://www.facebook.com/huggablekoi) and we went on an excursion together to.....Here's the program cover...
This Stan Lee-endorsed extravaganza is only 5 years old.
The con is held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in downtown LA.... which will also be the location for WonderCon 2016.
Comikaze was held on a busy weekend... Oct 30th - Nov 1st ... with a Saturday night that was a full moon.. Halloween.. and Fall Back time change...
I was comforted to see Batman perched above the lobby.. at the ready :)
The LA Convention center is a vast labyrinth... often daunting to traverse... but lots of signage and a steady flow of costumed con-goers made it easy to find the hall for this convention...
Long and short of it.....
Lots of fun and plenty to see .....
Even before you get to the exhibition hall floor...
Early stop at table of artist pal Jillian (below right) with her Squidbrains creations..http://www.squidbrains.net/
Here's some of the art adorned items I picked up from her .. See more on her Squidbrains Etsy store https://www.etsy.com/shop/Squidbrains
Also enjoyed meeting her table mate Morghan http://teatigercafe.tumblr.com/
Scored this nifty set of potions charms from her!You can find them on her Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/listing/240769961/potion-charms?ref=shop_home_active_5
Morghan is very wise and includes her business card inside the sealed plastic envelope with each charm.
Good job making those "smalls" help brand the artist with the image. Art is NOT anonymous.
Koi #10 enjoyed making friends ... here he is with an oversized Groot!
Always fun to find something new at a convention. Artist Marissa Garner uses stained glass graphics and colors to make prints with comic and mythic characters. What a fun way to explore pop culture with timeless craft.
Marissa was selling prints. You'll find these and more at her Etsy store...https://www.etsy.com/shop/0ShardsofColor0
The best superhero ever.. Batman... looks great in a stained glass arrangement.
Koi #10 was a big fan of her work!
So much to see on the exhibit hall floor. Plus tons of panels and special guests. You can review the line up on the Comikaze website: http://comikazeexpo.com/Koi #10 is a classic Trek fan....
Great to see artist pals busy at their booths... quick snap of sales action at Akumu Ink. http://akumuink.com/Their recent Kickstarter was a big hit and helped them produce their first book.... "Just Another Birthday" http://akumuink.com/blogs/news/74535683-update-on-our-books
Also happy to see artist Jeff Victor at the expo.. http://www.jeffvictor.com/
Jeff did the show at the last minute, so not many knew he was there, but I'm sure lots of folks like the crowd below were delighted to discover his work..
There were several large booths were attendees could get on-site services... like the artists drawing caricatures in the pic below....
Not quite sure what the story is with this little bot... but hope he found his ride and is off to save new adventures!
Wide variety of artists at this expo. Lots of prints... but also many booths with clothing.... costumes... accessories.. and crafts.
Another new find was this table with art by Reilly Leeds http://reallythinkaboutit.tumblr.com/
and Ashleigh of "Cadaverous Parlour" https://www.storenvy.com/stores/427470-cadaverous-parlour
I loved these little coffin-shaped trinket boxes.. decorated with bat buddies!
Large lobbies at the LA convention center were great places to take a break from the busy hall
and of course... find lots of cosplayers!
San Diego Comic Con had their own table...
Pop culture retail store Hot Topic was a major sponsor ... and there were long lines at their booth for con exculsives...Enjoyed seeing this lovely tribute to classic Batgirl....
Also nice to see a kind and attentive crowd for the legendary Elvira...
Comikaze .. nice to meet you.
LA Convention Center... see you in 2016 for WonderCon. If you get to attend.. be sure to check out these lovely etched stone murals in the hallways...
