Over many visits here, we have found some favorite places I like to be sure to visit. These are mostly restaurants. Best to eat early if you can during the festival.. as the crowds mean tables are scarce at peak times. Many restaurants close between lunch and dinner. If you don't have a reservation for dinner, try to arrive right when they open.
A highlight meal this year was a dinner at Atlas.

This is a restaurant we first discovered as guests of friends. Yummy tagine and couscous.
A meal there at least once during our Angouleme trips is a must. Like many businesses, Atlas is small and family run. We had the great luck of having the Language student son of the owner as our server. He helped me practice my French and also spoke with us in English to make sure we understood the menu. I have always found that learning a few phrases in French and making an effort to speak in the native language helps make for friendly and helpful encounters with everyone you meet in France.
Here are some other favorite spots...
The festive "King cake" features a small toy inside. The "winner" who finds it in their slice of cake gets to wear the paper crown. This year Star Wars themed cakes were popular.
A famous spot is the "Quick" fast food/burger joint. Popular for its free wifi... and often a crowd outside enjoying that perk. (the Quick is on the right in this photo..)
The Quick was a sponsor of the festival this year. You could see its logo on this year's festival poster (seen in the store window below)...
And its mascot at a booth inside the main/publishers tent...
The town "Halle" (market) has some food stands as well as all sorts of fresh produce, meats, cheese etc. Here's an exterior shot from the top of the street. The Halle is the glass-walled building on the right.
I've featured the Halle in previous posts on the blog. Here's one that shows the interior:

You can find the others by searching "Halle" on the blog.
