Situated in the modern-day Gare de Lyon train station, this Belle Epoque restaurant transports you back into Paris history.

UPDATE 6.11.20 -- More photos added.
Exterior of the Gare de Lyon. The three arched windows on the second floor are the restaurant.
Inside the station --- Stairway up to restaurant entrance...
The famous interior was lovingly restored several years ago. Reservations are recommended. No need to be intimidated. The front desk staff speaks English, and there is an English language menu available.

Pic below is just one of the fantastic interior rooms...
Where else can you sit in a room and feel like you are in one century...
Then look out the window and see another just on the other side of the glass.

I was very lucky to visit le Train Bleu as the guest of a beloved friend and French colleague, so I got a very authentic experience. It was supposed to be my treat, but she insisted since I was in her city. We had a good laugh about how when you live in a tourist destination city it takes a visiting friend to get you out to see the local landmarks you rarely get to when you live there.

At Le Train Bleu, there is a large dining area, but also two side salons where you can grab a coffee or drink. You'll see train travelers there, along with business people.

If you go at lunchtime, you'll see that about once an hour the official le Train Bleu guide appears in his period train steward uniform and gives a brief presentation (in French) about the history of the art on the walls and the interior of the building. We learned later directly from him that in the evening, the presentation is in English as well as French.
Of course the food was amazing!!!

Epic rum cake with a slather of whipped cream ...
Served with a decanter of rum...
Cafe Gourmand.... tiny desserts of baby rum cake, luscious chocolate mousse, and a perfect lemon tart.
Treat yourself to this extravagance. The memories are worth it.
